Perdido Water Service Authority Merges with NBU
Effective Dec. 30, 08, North Baldwin Utilities (NBU) has acquired Perdido Water Service Authority (PWSA).
The Utilities Board of the City of Atmore has provided Perdido with water for many years. When Perdido’s five-year contract expired with Atmore last year, Perdido and NBU entered into negotiations in an effort to continue Perdido’s service without costing customers significantly higher rates.
After months of negotiations, an agreement was finally reached by both organizations involved. Some of the terms include:
NBU will keep current Perdido rates the same for the next three years.
After three years, NBU will have the option to only increase rates similarly to that of other water systems operated outside of the Bay Minette city limits.
The name “Perdido” will remain on the elevated water tank as long as the water tank, or any replacement thereof, is in existence.
The NBU water system is currently connected to the Perdido system in two locations—one just south of Interstate 65 on Baldwin County 47 and the second on US 31 at Phillipsville Road. The existing connection to the Atmore system shall remain at this time.
“The multiple water supply sources and the strength and integrity of the NBU system will ensure effective and reliable service to the Perdido community.” - Jason M. Padgett, NBU General Manager.
The NBU Board of Directors believes the merger is the most beneficial and cost-effective option for all parties involved, particularly the previous PWSA customers.
All previous PWSA customers should now make payments payable to NBU. For more information or question concerning this merger, please contact NBU by phone between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 580-1626 or by e-mail at info@northbaldwinutilities.com.
