LINE LOCATION TECHNICIAN

North Baldwin Utilities is seeking a motivated and dependable Line Location Technician to join our team. This role involves locating underground utility lines, assessing their condition, assisting with utility line installation and maintenance, and training in CAD/GIS mapping to contribute to accurate utility mapping efforts.​​​​

 Qualifications & Requirements 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Vocational/technical training in utility systems or a related field is preferred.

  • Previous experience in utility line location or utility maintenance is a plus.

  • Training or experience in CAD/GIS mapping is a bonus but will be provided for the right candidate.

  • Valid Alabama driver's license required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The role may involve physical tasks such as bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, including dirt, humidity, and varying temperatures.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Locate underground utility lines, including water, gas, and sewer, using specialized tools such as metal detectors and ground-penetrating radar.

  • Dig to confirm the location and condition of utility lines.

  • Review blueprints, architectural drawings, and maps to identify utility services.

  • Record work activities and create maps of utility line locations.

  • Assist in the installation and repair of utility lines, operating equipment like backhoes, probes, and hand tools.

  • Train in and perform CAD/GIS mapping tasks to create and update accurate utility maps.

  • Maintain and clean work equipment and tools to ensure operational readiness.

  • Follow safety procedures, ensuring a safe environment for yourself and others.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and the public to coordinate work activities and resolve issues.
