NBU is proud to congratulate Noah Haskew, Alex Harmon and Dusty Baggett on completing NBU’s first Water / Wastewater Operator Apprenticeship Program!

As the program’s first class, Noah, Alex and Dusty did more than complete the required training - they also helped NBU build the program. There was plenty of trial and error, along with a few bumps to work through, and we appreciate their patience, flexibility and willingness to help improve the experience for future apprentices.

The program is certified by the Alabama Office of Apprenticeships (AOA) and combines classroom instruction with hands-on field training. Training includes preparation for ADEM Water and / or Wastewater Grade IC certifications, CDL training, skid-steer operation, trenching and shoring, CPR, confined-space safety and practical experience in the field.

A special thank-you goes to Taylor Heger for stepping up to lead the program as its instructor. Taylor recently became certified to teach OSHA confined-space training, adding another important area of instruction that can now be provided in-house.

We would also like to thank our supervisors for their support and understanding throughout this process. Their willingness to allow apprentices time away from daily responsibilities made it possible for these team members to study, learn and grow - strengthening both the program and our workforce.

And now the exciting news: our next apprenticeship class has officially started! Please join us in welcoming our newest apprentices: Bryant Hicks, Blaize Thomas, Caleb Rembert, Cade Leachman, Hunter Yarbrough, Mayson Skirvin and Myles Davis. We’re looking forward to the next year and to building on the lessons learned from our first class as the program continues to grow.

Congratulations again to Noah, Alex and Dusty - and welcome to our new class!
